You Will Remember Me

when I die
you can
wrap my skin around the sunset

bury my bones
at the edge of a rainbow

take my ears and throw them to the wind
so I can possibly hear God's secrets

place my toes on Fiji sands
so they can finally know what it feels like to be free

you can
take my forearms and plant them
into the minds of children
and they can interpret the stories tattooed across my wrist

you can
take my legs
and donate them to those who talk too much
fit my foot directly underneath their jaws
[so they can just
shut up]

my torso
well that you can do with as you wish
imagine that it's
still next to your waist

use my eyes to envision how I see you
without imperfections

but my lips
my lips
you can keep them

place them beside the bed so
they can kiss you good night
and wake you lightly in the morning

remember how those lips would whisper into yours ears
and tell you how much I loved you

feel them
placing echoes across your cheeks
warmth along your brow
and bury themselves within the nape of your neck

my lips
take them
they are yours to do with as you please
for as long as you are breathing
they will be the post card
placed on your mantel

as a reminder
of what I have given
to show that you
can have me

even when I am
in pieces
